The Eddie Aikau Foundation is a charitable organization created to share Eddie Aikau's life, contributions and accomplishments while promoting education and the advancement of Hawaiian culture. The Foundation strives to inspire people to develop a strong sense of pride in themselves, their heritage and their community through Eddie's remarkable spirit and character.

2012 Essay Winners

2012 Scholarship Winners

On Sunday Sept 22, 2013, The Eddie Aikau Foundation in partnership with the Hawaii Theatre will present the feature length documentary: Hawaiian: The Legend of Eddie Aikau, which won 2 awards at the Maui Film Festival in June. It was also shown to sell-out crowds at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City and is on the schedule for the Malibu Film Festival in October.


This fundraising event for the Foundation, will be joining the 2013 Aloha Festivals as an allied event, whose theme this year is "Moana Nui Akea-Celebrating Traditional Hawaiian Ocean Voyaging".


Suggested donations are $20 for reserved seating general admission and a limited number of VIP tickets are available for a $50 donation. VIP ticket holders are invited to a post-screening reception and they will receive a commemorative T-shirt and an autographed poster from the Aikau Family. Tickets are available at the Hawaii Theatre Box Office (528-0506) - see details on the attached Poster. We encourage you to see this award winning film which chronicles the remarkable life and power of Eddie Aikau, the legendary Hawaiian big wave surfer, pioneering lifeguard and crew member of the Polynesian voyaging canoe Hokule'a.


All proceeds from this fundraiser will support the Foundation's activities which include a Bilingual Essay Contest (Hawaiian & English) open middle and high school students in Hawaii; a Scholarship program for high school seniors and a Bilingual Children's Book written about Eddie Aikau.


ESPN has selected this documentary to be included in their Peabody-award winning 30 for 30 series which will air nationally beginning on October 1st.
